How to store a ZX12R

I recently bought a 2006 ZX12R which will not run within a couple of months. Before I bought it, it also didn't run for at least a year I think.

Would it be good to put some oil in the cylinders and turn the engine from time to time to avoid the piston rings to seize? And how can I turn the engine by hand (there is no visible crankshaft bolt I can use to turn the engine)

You'd be better starting it every now and again. Oil in the bores is ok, it's how a boat
engine is prepped for winter, but starting gets the oil round the whole engine and
drives out damp.
It's a good idea to disconnect the battery to reduce electrolytic corrosion to the bike.
Put the battery on a trickle charger/conditioner.

Perhaps it was not very clear, but I only have the ZX12R engine and the loom is disconnected and lying in a box, so starting it now and then will be difficult.

Bikes stand round in shops for months with no attention other than charging the battery occasionally, just keep it dry and it will be fine.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Depending where you are storing the engine makes a difference. if in doubt fill it with oil & won' t be a problem just remember to drop out the excess when you bring it back to life.
You can also easily turn the engine over with a pair of jump leads if you wish. although i would suggest you don't do this if you opt for the above!
Do you know the ngine is sound b4 you put into storage?

if its only going to be a couple of months id just leave the plugs in cover it up and forget about it. Then when your ready to fire it up put a small amount of oil down the plug holes and give it a couple of turns by hand.

Think of how many bikes stand about in people sheds that dont get used. when they want to use them they just fire them up with no problems.

Hmmm I used to put Storage Seal in my boat engine for the winter, available from any chandlers (Boat Shop).

Basically you squirt it into the engine until it chokes it. The when you start up in the spring you get nice clouds of smoke!.

Personally I would just start it regularly and run it up to temperature when you do start it to get rid of, and prevent any build up of condensation (water = potential for rust!)

Thats what I would do.
