Re-plumbing the Pinto....Radiator etc
Does anyone have a diagram on the theory behind re-doing the cooling pipes on a Pinto. Currently have a DGV carb on there, but changing to a TWin
Delorto set-up. This means losing the water pipe that goes to the original manifold.
My thoughts are to go to an alloy Header Tank with a pressure cap, and a expansion tank off of that.
ALSO, got a rather large Ford radiator fitted again with a presuure cap. Thinking of changing this to the Polo radiator (Mk 2?) at the same time.
The fan is currently switched from the dash board, but interested in peoples opinion on this setup versus a thermo controlled fan. Which Fan is used
with the VW radiator ??

I have just put my Pinto on zzr1100 carbs and had to do away with the return pipe from the manifold. instead i welded a small boss on the manifold
plate with an allen bolt in to act as a bleed to ensure that all the air is out and it works fine :-)

Sounds like a good answer to the problem, also it is the mk2 polo rad you want, cheap as chips!

Alternative put a Tee into the top hose and use a Landrover PRRT thermostat inserted in the bottom hose.

Why have you not put a pipe where you have put the allen bolt?
You could still get air locks in the head this is how i made mine

I ran mine with a golf header as Richard did.
Top hose to rad
Bottom hose to rad
Small hose on thermostat to header tank breather
Smaller hose on water pump to header tank bottom (filler hose)
Head outlet in middle of inlets was blanked off.
Never had a problem with air locks and always filled easily.

These header tanks in the water cooling sytem...
I see that some have a traditional pressure relief bayont cap (like the ones on radiators), which I understand relieves pressure and then will
effectively open a "vent" in the header neck, which I guess can go off to the atmosphere, or a expansion tank - if no exptank, could air
not be sucked back into the system when cooling.
Others, such as the Golf one seem to have a screw type cap, that does not have a pressure relief facility? Surely there needs to be some safety
relief device ?
Seems there may be many different ways of achieving the same result

i thought a header tank and expansion tank where two different things???
just because you are a character, doesnt mean you have character....
for all your bespoke parts, ali welding, waterjet, laser, folding, turning, milling, composite work, spraying, anodising and cad drawing....
