Tintop Starting Problem

Can anyone help with my pug 306 it's a T plate 1.8 16v most of the time it's fine, however sometimes when trying to start it, engine turns over fine, but not even a hint of firing, leave it for 30 seconds and try again and it starts just as normal

Any suggestions

Crank position sensor from my experience with pugs.
Also have a reputation for faulty ignition switch electrics.

Other possibles are fuel pump pressure -- small leak will allow pressure to drop when parked, or coolant temperature sensor.
