Mounted filter?

Does the fuel filter need to be mounted on the chassis? The reason i ask it that i was riveting the fuel hose on the car today and have fitted the filter as the picture below with the filter in between the chassis rails above the driveshaft. I just wanted to check it would be IVA ok like this.

Mine is fixed to the chassis rails with a proper bracket, I was going to fit mine like yours with a piece of ali sheet bridging the gap, but preferred this layout in the end

Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016

mines free in line, but it's only a small light weight plastic one (for low pressure carbs...). If it's got any weight to it (when full of fuel) I would make a bracket...
