Which TDCI?
I'm looking to spend about 3K on TDCI but not sure which one..
Fancy the Mondy after working in the plant from 2000~2007 as a QA engineer...
BUT.. like the look of the Focus...
Which model for 3K?

I had one and was the most unreliable car I have ever had. And to top it all Ford customer service was just as bad. Others at work had the same
experiece and wont go there again either.

You need another option on your votes...
Vauxhall Vectra 1.9TDCI SRi 150.
Then I'd vote.
Having said that - I'd definitely go Mondeo rather than Focus purely for practicality. Sure there are some pigs around, but if you get a good
one you'd be alright. Only problem is that good ones are hard to find...!

3K will get you a nice Rover75/MG ZT bullet proof BMW 2litre diesel better than than the version BMW used in their own models.
Just whatever you buy don't get a Renault/Nissan DCi

Thats the route I went after the Mondeo. It did 100k in two years and never missed a beat. Apart from regular sevicing the only thing replaced was the
clutch pedal of all things, it just went a bit creaky. I have a Saab 93 Sportwagon now and is just as good, add it to your list.

Second that just dont get an auto.
I wouldnt buy a mundeo. Theyr bland and go wrong alot. That 2 litre tdci is a terrible engine.
The vectra 1.9 cdti is a nice engine and car but plasticy. That engine in a saab is even better. Just watch out for the flywheels.
3 grand would get a you a nice highline passat 130 pd saloon and 6 speed. Much better engine than any of the above and much ncier to drive. Theyr a
nice car. Thatd be what id buy. But then again i just have.

out of the two you'll get more mondeo for the cash than focus.
I find the vectras a painful place to sit due to the poor design of the seats.

Oddly enough I've beat the cr@p out of a Mondeo 2.0tdci for about 3 years now and it's not missed a beat (well, once but don't use
bio diesel)
I suppose it depends on what size you want, I imagine you could get a newer or better spec focus for the same money

Ford Tdci engines tend to be very expensive to fix when they do go wrong. The dual mass flywheel problem seems to have been fixed or at least greatly
improved at the end of the 2003 model year.

I love my mondeo ST TDCI but you wont get one for 3k im afraid. That said I have had to have the injectors done as have many. But then again,
I've read that on most modern diesels the injectors are considered service items around 60-70k.
I suppose The ST is the only mondeo I'd have cos it looks half decent. I'd prefer a Focus but the specs/looks just dont match up to the
ST.
