drive shaft suppliers

Anybody out there got experience of how to get a supplier to give an idea of a delivery date.

I ordered a pair of drive shafts from GB Engineering having been informed that it would be two to three weeks.
Sent pattern ones plus cheque for full amount plus postage for the new ones and the return of the pattern ones.

I phone once as I had not heard if the 'shafts and the cheque had been received, money had not been taken out of my bank account, was told, yes they arrived, don;t take money until job is started, job sheet going to workshop tomorrow, a man of few words.

Thats good I thought, however I have been waiting 5 weeks now and despite another email politely asking for a delivery date I have had no reply.

I have a hillclimb to do in France over the Aug bank holiday, ferry booked for before then, if I don't get the drive shafts, I loose the cost of the ferry plus campsite booking etc.

I dare not phone the guy as I'm likely to get mad, why can't he just give me an idea of when they will be ready.

Any Ideas please.

Having known people who have had a similar experience with Geoff (GB) before I'd say you need to ring him and soon.
He is very good at what he does but as you say a man of few words and even less when it comes to email. I know also that his lead times can be a bit exagerated to say the least especially with drive shafts.
My advice, call him, don't get mad!! you need him right now probably more than he needs your money! and explain your tight deadline carefully, its your only chance.
I'd also hazard a guess that you won't catch him at work till after the weekend as I reckon he'll be at the National Autograss Championships near Hereford by now.
Underlying advice is call....email will be a waste of your time, good luck

having spoken to him about drive shafts a while ago, it seems he does them in batches - so you may be waiting till he's got a big enough order.

Speaking to him will be the best option.

Thanks for your reply, ok I need to work on my diplomatic skills, so I have the weekend to hone them to a fine art.

He may well not need my money, but if he adopted that philosophy with all of his customers, well I don't need to say any more, let's hope he just gets on with it.

drive shaft supplier

Spoke with the man himself, 'shafts were off being heat treated and was expecting them back today, so hopefully I will see them sometime next week.

Game on, corkscrew at the ready.
