Duratec noisy tensioner

I have a 2.0L duratec in my focus, recently it's been getting noisy when cold, there is a rattle coming from the alternator belt area, noise goes when warmed up. Also if it's cold and damp the belt squeals as if is loose, however there is no adjustment as the tensioner is sprung.
Is the tensioner shot ? If so is it an easy fix? Where's the best place to get a replacement?

Also on full lock the noise comes back, I'm pretty sure the powersteering pump is fine but could the extra load be annoying a sick tensioner?

Cheers for any help

Ash

could the belt be stretched if the tensioner has taken up all its play then the belt must be stretched or the tensioner is seized thereore not tensioning have you checked it moves

Yes the tensioner does move, when it makes the noise you can see it wobble a bit

I dont know about fords, but if its anything like the VW golf ones, then change it, I didnt, and was left with a trashed belt, my wife lost power steering on a fast A road and was very lucky.

new tensioner and new belt.

my tensioner had a slight squeek/buzz noise, but only every now and then, when it went it had seized solid and the belt just melted a flatspot onto the pulley, until it then shredded the belt, if there is any way that bits of this can get in behind your cambelt, then you could be in even more bother

heavy is good, heavy is reliable, and if it breaks, hit them with it

I had the same problem on my mondeo.
It needed a new belt, tensioner and crank pulley,
It was done under warranty so i cant tell you how much it cost.
