Sierra Uprights and Ball Joints.

I have collected the Sierra Uprights I acquired recently from friendly shotblasters and now thinking about the
lower balljoints.

I know that there are presently two ball joints favoured ; the maxi and the cortina.

What are the relative merits of each ?

Which is the better one for the lower balljoint application ?

Does the Sierra base require any special
custom fitting to accomodate the component?

Thanks in advance

a sierra hub needs drilling to a new taper to take maxi or cortina ball joints. A mk2 astra one will fit straight in.

as to comparing maxi and cortina parts, i havent heard of either failing. The maxi is smaller so its easier to position on the wishbone.

Maxi is smaller.

Cortina is cheaper- £7 a pair from Lolocost.

Either are the wrong taper so you need to get it reamed out to the correct dimensions.

MK and (I think) Luego will do this for you. or find a workshop with correct taper reamer. I can't remember what the correct taper is- was it 1:8?

Basically the (larger still) Astra BJs are probably the simplest option if you don't want to drive to Worksop any time soon!

Sierra Uprights and ball joints

I think I get this all now;
have to find the ball joints and see what taper is needed.

Thanks for all the advice and comments.

Prefabricated Wishbones

How do MKII Astra joints mate up to pre-fab wishbones? I'm planning to get mine from GTS, will they fit straight on or will the bones need some mods?

Darren, are you out there?

I would suspect you'll have to drill a few holes in you shiny new wishbones.

Oh, bugger! Would rather mod the uprights. Anyone know the details?
