Replacement Lathe Motor

I need to replace the motor on my old Wilfin Lathe The motor is completely FUBAR'd and fell into multiple pieces when I picked it up. Our motor guys at work had a look at it and said it was junk.

Would anyone like to offer any advice before I go and buy a replacement from the likes of Machine Mart or somewhere.

See if you've got a motor rewinding place near you (try Yell or Yellow Pages). They may have a second-hand one to suit you needs (it's where I got one for my smaller lathe).

Hi Liam

There's a bloke on eBay called electric-motor-man that I found very helpful. Prices OK as well.

I bought a motor for a polisher and didn't know what HP I needed, and also when I motorized
a set of pyramid rolls.

I would also look at fitting a reversible motor if your chuck fitting allows. Handy when tapping.
( Unless you already have a reverse gear.)
