Any compressor experts on here?
As above anyone on here know anything about compressors?
I have just acquired a couple of compressors for pennies but they need a bit of work. First up is the big daddy compressor. Its a 100l ish, with a big
old Brook 3hp motor. It runs, produces air and holds it. It needs a new pressure gauge and the electric cables need replacing. Due to not having the
gauge I havent run it for long periods to see if the cut off works.
My plan is to strip it all down, clean it up, lick of paint and service the pump with some fresh oil. I am not that well up on compressors so is there
any thing else I should be looking for?
Second up is the smaller unit, a 50l quiet running twin pump jobbie. Both pumps work individually, but as soon as both are hooked up the fuse pops.
I'm hazarding a guess at a short somewhere in the wiring, any other ideas?
If all else fails the big one is that heavy I would prob get my money back in scrap value!!

Don't Scrap it.
I would of thought you would get more than scrap value for the bigger one on ebay.
And I'm sure some one one here will want it first.

As a thought for the 2nd one, what are the power ratings of each pump? if 2hp each, then that would be on/beyond a 13A fuse, especially with the
startup. They may need to have seperate plugs?? or a 16A or 30A supply??

That was my initial thought but they are only 1hp each, a guy over on mig-welding.co.uk suggested they might just need a service with the correct oil,
apparantly the fridge type pumps are very sensitive on oil. Sounds a bit odd but i picked up some correct oil today so will check all the wiring and
service the pumps.
As for the big un, its all stripped down already and is becoming a locost style resto project. I've taken the electric motor to a local
specialist place and they are going to test it and check insulation etc just to give it the once over. Its fate will really depend on what they say
tomorrow. The pump had an oil change and a damn good clean, the tank has been cleaned and primed along with the belt cover.

Are the two motors supposed to be started up sequentially and the controller is broken/missing? Motors take a very large surge current when being
started.
