ID an Engine
I wonder if anyone on here can identify the V8 in the pics below? The chap selling it cannot get to the number whcih I gather from searching on Rover
V8s that it is either on the bellhousing or by the dipstick, both of which are against the wall so he cannot get to them.
I am guessing Rover P5/6?
Rover V8-1
Rover V8-2
Rover V8-3
Rover V8-4
Thanks.
JB

those early ones wouldnt pull the skin off a custard. if your thinking of it id personally save the dosh and buy a later one. theres a company that
sell crate rover v8's that werent that expensive.

Alternator is sitting on the top, so early range rover or landrover to me.
Probally then low compression but should not have a rope seal as not from a p6 and will have little valves as well, a good one 125bhp !
Worth nowt really then, only thing of interest 25 years ago would have been the inlet manifold as you can stick a weber on it, as this is on there it
pushes it even more into low compression as these also had restrictors on the standard inlet.
You want a 3.9 hotwire engine really, plenty about for £100 if you look hard enough.

OK guys, seems that it's a bit low on ooomph! then? It was going to be a project anyhow, not in a desperate hurry for one so I guess I'll
keep looking.

It would make a cool compressor though
http://www.doityourself.com/stry/how-to-convert-a-v8-engine-into-an-air-compressor
or a wine rack

Compressors interesting, better with a V6 as more balanced I would have thought if you want to run enough air to sand blast.
