carb or electronic ?

I hope to purchase an engine very soon, and will be going for a 9r. But have a few querries that hopefully someone will be able to answer.

A, Having spoken to a bike breaker to find out costs (approx £1000+ vat, for engine on palet that can be heard running) They said that most bec engines purchased were carb and he didnt recomend the 2001/2002 9r engines as they were efi ?

Is there any reason for not having efi ? I thought if it was running with all electrics then it would be a nice easy implant!

B. Should i purchase the clocks along with the engine?
Will they pass SVA ok?

C. Do i need to get any paperwork on purchase of the bike engine, Breaker guy reconned all i needed was receipt of purchase?

D. Anything else anyone can add to what needs to be purchased with the engine?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi,
(I'm assuming by 9r you mean ZX9R). First off I'm not a big fan of ZX9 engines see THIS thread.

But there will be a bit more wiring with an injection engine, you'll need to run a fuel tank return and you might need a power commander to tinker with it, but I don't think there's anything insurmountable in that lot.
No doubt some of the folks who run injection engines will fill in more.

I went for the clocks myself, bear in mind you'll have to re-calibrate them to get them accurate. The clocks will have most of the lights you need and should be easy to get working with the bike loom.

Paperwork. Get a reciept that shows the engine no. on it. Make sure engine no is on the engine OK as well.

The wiring loom is recommended unless you want to make your own or buy a third party one. Can't think of much else.

All the best
Ali
