Component Masses please?
I'm trying to redesign the locost chassis but to start with i need to know the masses of the components. If anybody is aware of the masses for a
1600 ford kent engine, a ford escort mk 1 gear box, prop shaft, rear diff and axel I would be extremely grateful. This is so I can determine the
bending forces on the chassis. Thank you!

some rough numbers only im afraid
I weighed a 1600 gt crossflow, it was dry with no alternator but did have carbs, dizzy and flywheel it was about 115-120kg.
the escort axle i had was fitted with the larger drums and had been braked for a locost and was about 47kg i think.
The type 9 5 speed gearbox i have is around 29kg dry and i know from conversation with a freind he found the 4 speed to be nearly 20lbs lighter when
he did a swap so i guess a fourspeed must be aroundabout 20-22kg or thereabouts.
i know my probshaft is just under 4kg but it is vey short and is a bailey and morris low torque type (lighter) so i guess it will be a little more
than that.
hope this is of some use it should at least get you in the ballpark,

hi again, i just checked me note book and the gearbox was 31kg not 29 so the 4 speed could be a little more than 22kg. As i say ballpark numbers
