How to remove white alloy corrosion?
Hi All,
So I recently acquired a 1.7 16v Alfa Boxer from a 145 as an upgrade for one of my Minari's.
The airbox (And other alloy parts) are all covered in this horrible white aluminium corrosion:
I've tried vinegar and a tooth brush to little avail. It removes the top coat of white powdery stuff but not the ingrained corrosion, I used a
test patch on the back to try my dremel with it's sanding cylinder on, it did remove the powder but I had to go quite far to falt the metal down
and this won't work on the written detail on top.
Will soda blasting it work? Can I soda blast with my shot blasting gun?

My soda blasting gun is almost exactly the same as my old shot blasting gun . Soda is cheap so worth a try

phosphoric or citric acid based alloy wheel cleaner
Another method is a nylon cup brush in a power drill

autosmart do a product called
ALI
An acid based cleaner for cleaning and brightening aluminium. Removes oxidised aluminium from wheels
and steps, giving an as new appearance.
its highly caustic and an antidote is required in case of accidental contact with skin
does a great job though
