Quaiffe Reversing Box, makes hell of a racket in reverse
R1 Phoenix
never even been in a BEC before buying this one. There's a lot of drive train shunt. generally it's quiet moving forwards but in reverse
the box makes a hell of racket, like a tin of ball bearings!
From what I've read it's installed correctly, the selector arm is at the back and reverse switch on the near side of the car.
I aslo read about all the issues with them. Doesn't appear to have leaked any oil, bottom of the tunnel is panelled in. So is this a common
thing to be noisy in reverse but forward being better?
looking at probably changing the bearings shortly. The rear prop feels slightly loose

Yep it's normal, it's the straight cut gears that makes it noises I believe
Mines not bad to be honest but I hardly have to use reverse which is good

mmm, could do. Haven't checked oil levels as the builder didn't have the forethought to place an opening to view the plug. It
doesn't leak, rather there's no evidence of any leaks, it's a flat bottomed/sealed tunnel car. If there was a leak would be
obvious.

Perhaps it doesn't leak because there's no oil in it, hence the noise..

your right, I doubt that there was ever any oil in it. I finally got it out today and there's about a serving spoon of oil in the bottom!
So next job is to strip it down and see what I find
