what denso alternator
hi all
im currently swapping from a pinto to a duratec in my mk. im after a seconf hand denso alternator to use with the new engine. my question is, do all
densos work straigh off or do some need a signal from the ecu ( like the original mondeo)
im aware i will have to change pullys to suit the multirib belt. could any one out there tell me what cars would have an acceptable alternator ?
iv seen a few dihatsu terrios on the fleabay would they be any good to me

I've not seen a Denso 40a alternator that needs an ecu signal but some need a switched 12v feed aswell as the charge light.
There is donor that others have not cottoned onto yet so they are still very cheap. But they need a bit more work on the pulley. No big deal if you
have a lathe.

I often wondered if the pulley end bearing on those Suzuki alternators would be up to the sideways load a belt drive would cause?
Also, is a double sealed bearing? as on the bike it is in the oil spray, it may have been left open on the outer face to take advantage of the oil. It
could easily be changed for a double sealed bearing...

One of the most popular is the Denso A073, as fitted to various Daihatsu models as well as some Kubotas.
They don't need an ECU connection.
Try googling 'Denso A073', and you should find loads of cross-reference numbers as well.

Be careful with Kubota ones some are not designed to spin at high revs.

the bike option sounds interesting and is definatly the cheapest way. ill have a look around on ebay for one. thanks for the advice guys

Erm its in storage at the moment so I cant remember if its double sealed or not. Load wise I doubt there will be any difference. Keep the pulley as
far back as you can to reduce load.
Just make sure you don't buy the one with the cable out the back as that will be for an external regulator.

I've got a Kubota tractor job and so far it doesn't mind Zetec revs.
I limit it to 7500 though.

A few westfield owners bought up some from a guy selling cheap
Dont know of any having issues with them
Mines done over a year on my zetec and is fine
I dont know what they would do differently to it to make it unsuitable to high revs

The bearings but if you fit a bigger pulley and under drive it or should help.
