1.4 TURBO K SERIES MK INDY RR BUILD
well decided to give up on my old kit car build and buy a new mk indy rr chassis
great work by mk on building it, looks great =)
so the spec so far is,
- 25mm tubular mk indy rr chassis
- full mk indy roll cage with side impact bars
- no engine mounts welded on so far as I will need to offer the engine and gearbox up to the chassis first to get them in the right place
- top mount pedal box mounts for a wilwood top-mount box
- inboard front push rod suspension
- helix 4 paddle rigid clutch with rover 220d pressure plate
- custom bell housing
- rover 1.4 k series with a few goodies bolted on, spec's, DKE 82mm crank, Arrow 133.1mm rods and Accralite 22.4mm pistons with 8.5cc dome.
works out iro 8.5:1c/r. and 1449cc The rods are unique design specially made by arrow, they are small journal (ala 1.4) but 1.8 rod length, Ported
head by scholar engines, Paul Ivey 29.5 inlet, 26mm exhaust valves, Piper double springs, piper Ti caps, std hydraulic lifters, 270h cams, fancy head
bolt/stud kit, adjustable pulleys, lightweight flywheel, turbo is a gt2560r and cooled by the pwr avt chargecooler all run by the omex 600 ecu
I've ordered a vibra technic gearbox mount and some 3mm plate for mounting the engine and should be down to the powder coaters next week
sometime
more updates to follow Longley

Like the left field engine choice. What sort of power do you expect it to make ?
I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

Speak with Dave Andrews at dva before you buy any aftermarket k series parts

it made 292.8 bhp in my old metro, but should be seeing close to 320bhp with the boost turned up a tad and the right fuel pump

I love the 1.4 K series engine, I have owned two cars with these in the past and never ever had a problem even after I hydro locked one in a flood,
got the water out and it started first time even with a bent con rod

The engine was built by Drew at Roverdose 7 years ago, hopefully I shouldn't need to buy anymore bits as this engine is over engineered for its
power
ill probable go to dva about a set of throttle bodies though, quite a big name in the k series modding scene

It's not just the power. He knows exactly what works in a kit in terms of performance!

Sounds great,
Engine spec is same as mine but mine is a 1.6 ford sigma, and I'm running a 2871rs turbo
What boost pressure do you need to run to do 300bhp?

It's great for spreading out in (as you can see lol)
20'ish psi should see the 300bhp I'd imagine ( no real telling unless on the rollers )
I'll be turning the boost upto 24 psi once I get a manifold and billet turbo wheel (drew recommended not going over 2 bar so I'll keep it
in the safe zone)

Had a test fit of the engine today and found that it didn't fit with my bellhousing so I'll be using a Caterham bellhousing instead

Are you putting that amount of power through a type 9 gearbox?

Yeah, "should" be okay looking at what others have got, although I really want a fancy gearbox but that's not on the cards yet

Powers not the issue. It's torque, I'm putting more torque through mine than Darren is. So type 9 will be fine
