Silvertop Alternator Installation

Have reached the stage where I need to sort out the silvertop's alternator. Where is the best place to mount it?
Paul Toyne's website (http://www.toyne.org.uk/zetec-fitment.html) suggests mounting it on the O/S, under the inlet manifold. Anyone found a better solution?

I hung mine down under the water pump outlet on the nearside. Made a mounting out of the redundant air con pump bracket.

Problem I had was no room on the offside due the steering column route..

There's pictures somewhere in my blog below.....

Engine Mounts?

Hi Coozer. Found your photos very interesting. But couldn't see how you fitted engine mounts. Reckon that the N/S silvertop mount bolts to the block just where the air-con pump bracket used to fit. Or have I got that all wrong?

When I changed from the silvertop to the blacktop the offside one fitted perfectly but the nearside one needed remaking, threaded holes in the block were in different positions. I'll see if I can find some pics of the mount. The aircon bracket only used little m8 n the side of the sump and very bottom of the block if I remember rightly...

Ok, here are some pics of my silvertop install. Engine mount is in the same position for the chassis on both versions..

Its a Brise alternator, got it brand new dirt cheap off ebay..

Here the rear of the alt bracket shares one hole on the block..

For the blacktop I had to remake the engine mount, here again shared one of the bolts with the air con bracket but due to the shorter block and ali cradle its very different.. The other side the engine mount off the silvertop fitted with no mods..

Coozer, thanks for those pics. As ever, worth 1000 words of explanation - but much clearer! And it was very interesting seeing your mounting solution.
