Oil temp sender ?
What's the best place to fit an oil temp sender on a pinto ?
I'm not planning to use an oil cooler (unless the gauge tells me I need one) so its effectively just the stock setup at the moment

You can get sump plugs with drilled through thread, the sender then screws in.

I am told the sump plug option is not the best
I have a sump plug mod and it didn't work at all
Other options are a filter baseplate adaptor which has t handy take off plugs

it.

VDO told me, directly, that the oil drain plug was a lousy place to have the sender and several have experienced that to be the case.
I'm about to have my sump tapped for a sender once I first get the new baffle plate positioned.
Others utilize a sandwich plate at the filter, which usually is part of an oil-cooler setup.

There is no real diiference between tapping the sump for a sensor or tapping the sump plug -- the readings will be within a few degrees and likeky
read surprisingly cold.
The oil temperature going to bearings is the main temperature going to the bearings not easy to measure without a cooler or remote filters.
If it is only to find out if a cooler is required or not for temporary test rig I would use a K-type thermocouple held on to the oil filter housing
with a band of tank tape ---- cheap simple and accurate.
DUAL TWO CHANNEL 2 K-TYPE DIGITAL THERMOMETER THERMOCOUPLE SENSOR 1300°C cheap as chips easy to use and much faster
resposne the than thermistor types.
