Master Cylinders

Hello,

I've got myself a little problem - I've got a pedal box of some unknown vehicle, (It was on the floor and looked like it might fit.)

The holes for the master cylinder are mounted top bottom, and i dont have room to redrill them so they are horizontal, I've had a look at a few MC's, the sierra, and the cortina, and they wont fit for this reason.

Can anybody recommend a MC which will fit? I'm not using a bias bar etc....

Rally design etc only have either single ones, or horizontal mounted double ones.

*grumble*

Cheers

I'm a bit confused by what you mean, but if you mean that you need a vertical master cyl, try the metro or mini, these are vertical.

Ahh, the actual master cyl should be horizontal, but the mounting holes which bolt onto the chassis need to be one above the other rather than side to side.

Like this: http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=562_582_607&products_id=4102
so that the mounting holes are lined up if you rotate the master cyl around 90 degrees. Like a tandem version of: http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=562_582_583&products_id=4046

Cheers

Although the bolt layout is correct Metro and Mini cylinders mount vertically so are unsuitable.
Its the old type fitting used before servos --- trouble is dual circuit master cylinders are nearly all for the later type fitting, the one exception I am 100% sure of is master cylinder to late model Triumph Spitfire and FX4D taxis (not sure about later taxis).
here is the url of illustration from the Rimmer brother site http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/spitfire/images/103b.gif
For more info see tRimmer Bros site .
This is an erxpensive unit but The Spitfire Graveyard may have a 2nd hand cylinder that you can fit a repair kit to.

Thanks for the link - Its working out more expensive than I'd planned - If I re-fudge my pedal box - I can fit a horizontal mounting one - can you recommend one which would fit easily and fairly cheaply?

I'd prefer one which isnt designed to have a servo etc.

Cheers

Base model early 80s Polo or Golf no servo cylinders are dirt cheap from Euro car parts -- but you will need to get a resevoir out the scrappies.

But have you checked out the Spifire Graveyard http://www.spitfireg1.f9.co.uk/frame.htm
they have everything Spitfire and fiting a kit is easy.

Hello,

Spent the weekend messing around in the garage, fitted a polo master cyl, need a bigger spacer to move it further away from my pedal, and had to modify my clutch thingy a little but it looks set to be the business.

Only downside is that it has 4 outlets, im planning on 1 each to the front wheels, then 1of the rear ones going to the back, and then putting a pressure switch in the 4th hole, is this ok?

Cheers
