Tickover with a slightly lumpier cam

Yippeee!

Cam now run-in, engine re-timed, quick whizz up and down the main road - all running sweetly.

The question is - now that I've fitted a slightly lumpier cam (Kent BCF2 instead of the standard Ford 1600GT) should I still be able to set the engine to tick over at 800rpm, or is the 1000rpm I now have to use OK?

Doesn't half go well now, though!

David

I would leave it at 1000.

I sometimes found that if I snapped the throttle a bit quick it would bog and die on warm days.

That's on my 1700 xflow with 244 cam and twin webers.

Cheers, Rob.

One thing's for certain - I only just passed the SVA sound test at 99dB with the old cam - I doubt I'd pass with this one, as the engine now has a certain 'crackle'!

Did you have the flywheel lightened as well ?

Makes a hell of a difference and adds the F1 touch to the sound.

No - I was too impatient to get the car back together and on the road!

My plan is to get one over the next few months, get it lightened and fit it at some convenient time in the future.

cheers,
David
