Newbie questions
Gents,
I am about to begin building my Locost and am
considering using an MGB as a donor
(I've got all the bits in my garage)
Being a newbie I want to make sure I am not
biting off more than I can chew.
Can anyone out there give me the axle and
engine dimensions of the Sierra and Escort.
I want to compare these with the MG bit to
see if it would be a massive re-engineering
project.

I took an MGB to bits a few years ago, so, based on that experience, my recommendation is to-
Sell the MGB bits
Use the money to buy a Sierra
Main reasons- MGB bits are heavy, bulky and old-fashioned.

This was my thinking as well. But on the other hand I'd like to have a period(ish) seven!

i actually had an email from ron champion once when i mailed him at his old web site, he said he had done an mgb based car.
also
check on yahoo and search for locost. There are certainly people in usa that have used one as a donor.

ps - if you can get one a triumph dolomite would make a nice simple donor - especially the 1500TC - the 1850 and sprint engines are slant fours -
might not fit? and the 1300 might be a bit powerless.
Some have overdrive, (6 gears effectively) by a switch in the gear lever causing 3rd and 4th to act as extra speeds.
