Escort rad fitting

It won't fit! Not in a million years!
My Mk2 Escort rad is 450mm high (470mm if you measure to the top of the filler neck). Even with it tipped back at an angle, it just physically won't fit without the filler neck putting a bulge in the nose cone and judging by the way I have to kick and punch the nose cone to get it on in the first place there won't be much left of the paint job when I get it done!
I could fit a Polo rad like Surrey Dave which was my first thought but I already have an Escort one and according to the bible, IT SHOULD FIT!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!
How have you guys done it?
Pics and explanations urgently required before I lose the plot!
Cheers
Jon

What worries me is if an Escort rad won't fit will any other eg Polo or Micra? Are these much smaller?
I don't know what bodywork I have, maybe that's the problem. My nose cone could be too small.
Anyone have a view on this?

I had to shave a bit of the sides of the rad but it went in no probs,i know i have sealed the filler to runner a header but other locosts have fitted them no probs, are you sure its an escy and not a taller capri or cortina rad. Rescued attachment MK Indy build pics 069.jpg

All I know is it was described as an Escort rad on Ebay, it looks like an Escort rad and as far as i know it's the right dimensions for an Escort rad. It's 450mm high (470 if you measure to the top of the filler neck). What size is your rad? And what nose cone do you have?
I don't know how you got it fitted upright. Even at 45 degrees I can't get the nose cone on properly.
Cheers

In fact can anyone tell me what the dimensions of an Escort Mk2 rad are? Then I will know for sure if mine is indeed and Escort rad. Because as far as I can see I'm the only one who seems to be unable to get one to fit!
Cheers

Jon

My mk2 escort rad is 380mm high without the filer neck and 480mm wide with about 10mm trimmed off each side at the fixing points.

Taking into account the indy top rail is 1" higher than locost book, but this shouldnt make any difference as plenty of book locosts have used this rad.

I hope this helps.

Mate check the size of your nose cone compared to other locosts. From what i remember your nose looks a bit smaller compared to others..

I've got to admit after looking in jon's photo archive there is something about that nose cone,it looks like its breathing in a bitif you know what i mean.

But as jon has said its a height issue which makes me think it isnt an escort rad,its a strange one
