Visual Smoke emission only at MoT on a Q plate (but not so for the SVA).
1. The point of a journey is not to arrive.
2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

And probably not for much longer at MOT, either

Do you prefer a G plate or a Q plate?
will a future buyer of your car?
If so, will they pay more?
Would you rather have the rear axle from an xr4x4, the front from a 2.0 and the engine from a range rover (you should get a Q) or do you want to stick
with a single donor and get an age related plate?
Personaly, If I cant have a new style '51' plate or newer then a Q is as good as an age related one, especially given MOT emmisions tests.

Im having same dilemna. Once car is finished i dont really want it to have a 1992 age related plate as the car is not 13 years old. Im thinking that a
Q is as good as a private plate as no-one will really know its age. Now that we have SVA the stigma for Q's is not so relevant. The only people
who will turn their noses up are non-car builders without the knowledge and these probably wont buy it anyway.
A Q plate with full photo build history and a comprehensive receipt file is surely worth as much as one with age related plate. Only downside is you
cant retro fit a private plate later.
You cant see the plates when you are driving. Most other people will only see the rear plate for a small amount of time!!!
I still cant decide tho'!!!!

so when applying for the age related plate ?? is that the same plate that was on the done car
when getting the q plate what determines what it will say ???
the only thing i was thinking about was will it be worth more at the end if its just plain easier ill just go Q if theres no really benifits of age
relation then i wont bother
im not sure bout the old pinto lump i had a quick look about no obvious ones for sale most are twin cam or have injection i was stering away from that
for ease of fitting and less hassle but im defo going 4x4 rear axle and normal 2.0 front axle so would that effect age relation doesnt it have to be a
certain amount from the original doner car ?

While building my kit several people commented on the Q plate as generally people associate it with cars with iffy history.
So I got a V5 from a J reg Sierra and used Sierra bits for the transmission, suspension, brakes and steering. This was enough to get age related even
though the engine was from a Toyota.
Though I got the V5 from RAW I'm sure they just applied for one from the DVLA (£19).

No - you will get a plate of the equivalent year. The old plate will be sacrificed with it's V5

My car was given the donor registration when I registered it a Sheffield VRO. I was surprised when it came back with the same number.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Mine's a similar mongrel! The SVA don't care - but the DVLA will probably give you a Q-plate.
Not a big issue, as far as I'm concerned...

I would like to keep my doner plate with its "MK" letters, I have the doner registered and SWORN'ed in my name.
Is there an issue here I thought you could use it?, along with scrapping MY car?

Always worth trying to "kid" the DVLA into letting you keep the donor plate, they have'nt a clue half the time when it comes to
kits. If you want a age related plate get a V5 and say the bits come from it. Unless they know there stuff, and most don't, they go with what
you tell them, although a bike engine from a Granada takes some believing!
I prefer a age related plate but just my preference.
