Engine noise\tapping
When the blade engine is ticking over I can hear a slight kind of tapping\knocking coming from the engine, it's almost like maybe the cam chain
is a bit slack but obviously it's very hard to tell!
Obviously when you rev it you can't hear it but just wondering what it might be.
Have read through this thread http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=11486
and it sounds like it may be similar, trouble is as this thread is a while ago the links for the vids don't work, is there any chance Hellfire
and Chris you still have these vids so that I can listen to the noise?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Rich.

I don't have any Shortie - sorry m8.
IIRC the engine did tick slightly when ticking over. Maybe worth checking the cam chain tensioner... easy enough to do!
Hope all is ok...

Thinking about it and speaking to MAC1 it may well be that the carbs are out of sync.
I have had them on and off the engine and have never sync'd them so could well be this.
Think I'll buy myself a carb syncroniser as they are only around £40 and should really be done anyway.
Once that is done will have to see if it's still there.

Definitely the first thing to do. You don't actually need a gauge - you can do it with a length of windscreen washer hose....!
Remove your air filter and fire up the engine. Hold the hose just off the carb slide of the carb which is directly attached to the throttle cable in a
position that you know will be repeatable on all carbs, place the other end up against your ear and listen carefully. Next, determine which carb is
the next one attached to the first and place the hose in EXACTLY the same place on that carb. If the sound is different, tweak the adjustment screw
either way until they sound the same. Do this for the next carb, and then the final one (which should be at one end, furthest away from the first
carb). Keep checking across all carbs for consistency and there you have it - job done!
You'll probably need to tweak the tickover whilst you're doing this as it'll wander about a bit, and make sure you have your air
screws correctly set first.
I've done it this way many-a-time, and if it worked for Pops Yoshimura (legendary Japanese bike tuner) it's good enough for me!
