outgoing NTL mail

My outgoing email seems to have stopped working as of last night.

It's through NTL, and the POP3 connection is still fine as I am receiving email ok, and internet connection is fine too, but outgoing email is timing out on connection??????

Any ideas??

I have been told that it's worth checking my Avast antivirus, as this routes outgoing emails through itself to stop mass mailing if a virus gets through.

Apparently need to ping the server to check it's actually working too.

Nope...NTL have been having problems since yesterday afternoon.
Its affecting incoming and out going email.
It is intermittent, and when you can get on their site, it does say that they are having problems..

Sounds like the mail server has went down, I don't know the NTL setup but even if the the outgoing and incoming mail servers have the same name to the outside world they can be two different PCs thus pinging them might not tell you anything. For traffic and security reasons quite often ISP servers don't respond to pig requests anyway.

ahhhhhhhhh!

cheers folks!!

they are most certainly different servers.

its the "smtp.ntl****.com" one that's not working for me. The "POP3.ntl****.com" one is working fine.

(stars cos I can't remember the exact names off the top of my head)

Funnily enough me and the Mrs were having trouble with mail. I'm with BT and the wife is with Tiscali and we were both having problems. Perhaps it's not just NTL???
