Looks like an I4 indeedy. Heres a bit of pinched text from another site:
Engine
RS2000 I4 EngineAt the time other Mk5 Escort were still using CVH engines because the new Zetec 16 valve engines were not introduced until 1992.
Instead of using CVH , Ford chose the 'I4' 8 valve DOHC engine used in the Sierra and Scorpio as the base for the RS2000 engine. Fitted
with a new Ford developed 16 valve head this engine produced 150hp. As opposite to other Ford overhead cam engines, this engine used chain driven
camshafts. Tubular exhaust manifold was quite good design when compared to usual Ford cast iron manifolds.
* DOHC 16v, iron block, alloy cylinder head.
* Bore and stroke 86,00 x 86,00 mm , 1998 cc, compression ratio 10,3:1.
* Electronic fuel injection, Ford EEC IV engine management system.
* Max power 150 hp at 6000 rpm, max torque 190 Nm at 4500 rpm.
Here it is at home:
As with all ford engines it will mate up to a type 9 gearbox as the bolt pattern on them all is the same. You will prob need a different clutch
though.

I don't think that the Duratec will fit onto a type 9 gearbox.
The engine code should tell you what it came from

i'm pretty sure the engine inquestion is not a duratec, its a dohc with a 16v head.
based on the dohc block it should fit upto a type 9 without too many probs.

Yup. As the italics bit in my post says. The I4 was based on the old DOHC as used in sierras and scorpios etc. But it has a 16V head on.
I4 was pre-duratec and zetec (pre 1992)

sorry t0 be pedantic, but my understanding is that i4 is not an engine code or identifier it is simply the layout of the engine and was sued to
differentiate the duratec i4 and v6 engines. people seem to use it somewhat confusdely to describe other non duratec engines, the rs2000 engine is
just that, an rs2000 16v, based on the block of a 2ltr dohc 8v.

Not a bad engine if it's in good nick and cheap/free, but will suffer from the same problems as the Sierra DOHC, very heavy, very tall and
expensive to work on.

Yep....
i4 = inline 4
The engine pictured is normally referred to as the Ford DOHC and should not be confused with any zetec or duratec variants.

All the answers so far are close but no cigar!!
It is the same block and head as the Late RS 2000 engine, but it is from a late 16v scorpio, as you can see that it is RWD and has sierra type engine
mounts attached to it, which will definitely not fit a fwd escort!!!
It was available in 2.0 and 2.3 ltr formats and is a very good, though rather heavy engine.

Oh yes, meant to say, MT75 (ex 2ltr twin cam 8v sierra one) 'box bolts straight on.

no, but not a whole lot more than the 2.0 in std form, but then the std 2.0 is 150 hp anyway so not too shoddy!

Graceland (Paul) on this forum made his own manifold and turbo'd one after putting it in his sierra. He took it out to put in his build.
Original thread was over at inter-ford.

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

tey going to feoc.co.uk. a lot of people put these engines into escorts or use the 2.3l variants from galaxies although some mods are needed for that.
Lot of torque for not much tuning is what i hear but big bucks for big bhp.

This engine comes from a late scorpio.
It is a 2.0 (see valve cover) and has 136 BHP.
It fits streat on a MT 75 or T9.
It weight 130 kg net.
I use a RS 2000 engine ( same but different cames) with self made carbon fibre intake manifold, shortend sump from a sierra DOHC.

In 1989 ford introduced a new iron blocked range of engines as replacement for pintos. this was shorter, squatter and more rigid in design with an
ally cylinder head. originally 8 vlave chain driven twin camwith fuel injection managed 125bhp. An evolution complete with new narrow angle 16v twin
cam cylinder head then appeared in the rs2000. Solely used by the rs2000 and later by the scorpios and galaxy's although slightly detuned and
refined also including twin balancer shafts mounted in the sump. F2 rally experience showed it could be tuned to produce at least 282 bhp non turbo
with a very borad torque curve. mxt75 five speed manual box.

I deffinately want to use my DOHC but having seen one with a standard sump fitted into a Dax Rush i know i will need to get the sump shortened but i
hear its not any good to weld it and i don't know anyone who sells them already shortened.
Any suggestions?
