Inspection of seatbelt anchorages?

Next question!

I have mounted my handbrake on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel, as I hate having them up on top in elbow country.

I am making an ally enclosore for the lever, which will go back to the rear bulkhead to enclose the cables ect as well.

Only problem is that that will also enclose the r/h passenger lap belt anchor point. I was going to cut a suitably large oval hole in the ally casing and edge trim it and have the belt exit through that.

Only problem is that I really want to rivet the ally cover on, as rivnuts in the floor are not really do-able (stick out underneth too much) and will the tester then want me to drill the rivets out to check the anchorage, or will he be happy seeing the back of it from underneath in the tunnel????

All this assuming it's ok to run the belt through the hole in the ally to start with (don't see why not if it's ok to run em through seat holes)

If you have any doubts, just take photographs to show the tester.
My floorpan covers some of mine. My friend who builds Diablo replicas, just takes photos and his always cars pass.

I can confirm that in my SVA I was asked about the anchorage points, he asked if I had pics which I did on the laptop which I had taken with me, he was more than happy with the pics as proof.

Rich.

i think they may not be too keen on running it through the ally though as it is quite thin and will probably chafe the belt and end up breaking it.
the manual says something about this but i dont have it handy to check.

In practical terms, if there is a risk of belt chafing then they will fail it - no question.

Otherwise, don't make it too difficult to get at the fixing - you may want to change the belt, or remove it for some maintenance.

Yea, that was my thinking and concern, but then I thought that it is no different to running the belts through holes in GRP seats is it, and these pass. Obviusly the hole in the ally will have edging strip around it to give a nice soft radius.

To get at the belt fixing won't be a particularly big deal, but will involve drilling out around 5 rivets I guess.

I can't really do it another way as it needs to be fixed to a single skin ally floor with something that doesn't stick out under the car or above the floor!

The Robin Hoods have the handbrake on the passenger side i think. Might be worth looking at.
