Fax set-up
can anyone tell me how i set my computer up to send faxes?
i have a scanner and I'm runnig windows XP home.

If its the same asXP pro then:
Start
Printers and faxes
Set up Faxing
Follow the instructions. You will need original xp install disk.
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want!!!

Dialup modems used to have fax built in but broadband doesn't. There are services like efax which is a subscriber thing,
email to fax but I haven't used it, I connected my old modem up last
time I wanted to send one.

Nothing to stop anyone using both a broaband connection and a dial up fax modem as long as the modem isn't used for a network connection but
only for faxing. The fax needs to go through a filter however I have had clients who have had difficulty with faxing after conversion to broadband
this usually turns out to be the gain setting on the BT line needs optimising for fax.
If using a computer to recieve faxes I recommend using symantec WinFax.

You'll need a standard modem fitted Chris.The modem should be plugged in after the Broadbean filter as the broadbean carrier on the line will
corrupt the fax data this is why you probably had problems Trident.If you need any Fax software u2u me and I'll get it over to you.

What I said was fax line must go through filter the cause of fax problems was BT line gain changed at exchange after broadband conversion, I have
encountered this problem a few times -- also note a standard modem but a fax-modem as not all modems have fax capability.

Missed that about the line going through the filter Trident,but in 25 years of fitting PABX's/keysystems fax voice and data networks Ive never
once had to have the gain adjusted at the exchange,I would have thought that this would throw up more problems with sidetalk than anything
else.Standard modem was with regards to a broadband modem.

Right.
I have an internal modem that I used to use before I got broadband. do I just connect this to the phone filter? or direct to the phone socket?
