Dashboard vertical dimension
Just prototyping my dashboard.
Would be good if people could give me some idea of the height (ie. the vertical dimension) of their dashboards.
I'm guessing 8"/200mm at the moment. This seems to give about enough knee clearance.
I don't have much on there to display. I plan to try to fit the speedo and tacho and warning lights behind the steering wheel so not much left!
Thanks!
James

size matters (cough!)
My original dash was flat bottomed - center height being approx 185mm
Not a lot of room for dials & switches - without 'em spreading across the whole dash..
New, part finished dash is in photo archive : "dash-half-done"
Cost me about £3.50 to make (excluding the digidash & savage switches)
I've added a drop down of 45mm, but being 6ft6, this is on the limit for my knees.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
James.

James,
There's no fixed size - it's whatever suits you, the instruments and the car.
I made a hardboard prototype, and stuck on some paper instruments I drew up on the computer. I used artist's adhesive (what used to be called
"Cow Gum" ) so that I could shift things around until I was happy.
The only down-side of this method is the micky-taking I got from the missus as I sat in the car pretending to be driving!

well that wouldn't be very sportsmanlike!
but that said I spoke to James before he posted this and told him my measurements (ooerr) he obviously didn't believe me as he then posted
anyway
beware, I've got yellow skin
