Rear Springs - What poundage??
I have decided that I need new rear springs. My front end feels well planted but the rear is way too stiff. Shakes yer fillings out on bumpy roads
with one in but is a bit better with two.
It also suffers from oversteer, which looks great but can get interesting.
I have a live axle and have no idea what springs are fitted.
Can anyone offer advice on what springs to fit to a live rear axle on a car weighing around 650Kg.
Thanks for any info.

Bumps are controlled by your shocks and not springs (unless they are really solid).
Springs handle body roll in corners.
If you have adjustable shocks, wind the stop back a bit.

Adjustable Shocks
I tried that first.
They are on the lowest setting.

My 1st set were !40lbs , good ride but too soft ,(kept hitting bump stops).
Now got 200lbs fitted

Are your springs wound too tight to achieve the correct ride height?
Over compressing them can make them solid.
I made this mistake on my rear shocks, but I changed them for an inch longer and kept the springs. This allowed the springs to work properly. (not a
7 type car)

A lot of people have had success with 180 lb/in springs for road use

?
Roll stifffness controls body roll
Springs control suspension frequuency and bumps
Shocks (Dampers) damp suspension osscillations and are use to modify the way the vehicle responds to transient changes.

I have 150lbs on the back of my car.
It's a bit lighter though at 550kgs.

I have a similar issue...
When I had lighter springs (180lb) the ride was good on most roads but I hit the bump stops on harsh bits. If I upped the damping rate then I just
got a bad ride. I fitted slightly stronger springs (200lb) and softened the dampers fully and now it's generally Ok. I manage to live with it
on most roads - it's just a bit harsh on very bumpy bits!
Iterestingly, when my wife's in the car (so the load is spread fairly evenly) the ride is a lot better - maybe I need to concentrate on the
setup adjustments a bit more...

My issue was because my rear damper mounts are not in the correct place so I have 1" less travel on the rear dampers ,when in fact you should
have longer travel on the rear as the dampers are vertical.
This is an error in the book I believe.
It's one of those jobs to do that I never get round to, fit longer dampers softer springs probably around 160lbs would give a better road
hugginr ride.

Time to order then
Thanks guys.
I will start with 200lb springs then to see how it feels.
I do want it stiff for track days but not so stiff that it bounces around corners.

I picked up a pair of 13,5 inch AVOs cheap at Stonleigh but have found that they are to long to fit to the book style mounts, I am using converted
mini dampers that are 13 inch at present with 160 lb springs, but they have been bottoming out on hard bumps. I was a bit annoyed when they didnt fit
but now think it will have the axle out and cut off the book type mounts and fit them to the radius arm bolt instead and add an extra plate inboard to
support the inner end of the bolt.I also have some 180lb springs to fit
Hopefully this will be worthwhile.
