38 DGAS mixture adjustment?

Running a x-flow fitted with a 38 DGAS off an Essex V6 - suitably jetted, The carb has two mixture screws.
Firstly which directions leans the mixture, in or out?
Secondly, how important is it to "balance the two screws? considering that each barrel is not "seperated" as on the V6
Cheers

You need to get both screws about the same position afaik. Screwing in leans the mixture. I set mine up on a MOT places gas analyser. I think they are rughly all the way in and out approx 2.5 turns each. Mine is jetted for 2.0 pinto.
