what have you called yours
Hello guys
Am i right to beleive that as i have no paper work to prove my lococt chassis is a locost chassis that i can not have it named as locost on the log
book , if i cant what do you think i shoud put in the Make and Model section.
Also what have you named yours if you was in the same position

how do you mean paperwork to prove its a locost? There is no such thing as such. You can call it anything you like, from locost to cateringvan. )

Mine is called a Bickell Designs F1-2.
All I said was I was the manufacturer and provided proof of the steel being bought from new.
This meant I had 5 of the 8 points required for an age related plate (new chassis). You get a point for the engine, 1 for transmission etc.
I called it something completely different when I fried the head gasket!

Interesting information Just took a look at the DVLA site and seems that its pretty impossible to get an age related plate for a Locost these days
From what i read on thier site a locost could only make a maximum of 7 points from the 8 required for an age related plate! Unless you buy a kit
from a manufacturer (MK, RH etc) a locost would fall under.......
B. Radically Altered Vehicles
This covers vehicles which are substantially altered from their original specification, but which are not kit conversions.
In these cases the vehicle components used from the original vehicle will be given a numerical value and, in order to retain the original registration
mark the vehicle must score eight or more points.
If less than eight points are scored or a second-hand or modified chassis or altered monocoque bodyshell is used an ESVA/SVA/MSVA certificate will be
required to register the vehicle and a 'Q' prefix registration number will be allocated.
The following values will be allocated to the major components used:
Points
Chassis/body shell (body and chassis as one unit - monocoque)* (original or new) = 5
Suspension = 2
Axles = 2
Transmission = 2
Steering Assembly = 2
Engine = 1

Axles = 2, Transmission = 2, Steering assembly = 2, Engine - 1, When I went to school that added up to seven points, ie, Age related plate. Mind you
along time since I went to school, maybe they have changed how you add up. Ray.

Get hold of DVLA doc: INF26 it explains it very well.
To quote from INF 26:
"
Radically Altered Vehicles

Kit Built Vehicles
where all the parts of a vehicle are supplied new by the manufacturer. Subject to the provision of satisfactory receipts and a Certificate of Newness
these vehicles will be registered under a current registration mark
Kit Conversions
This is where a kit of new parts is added to an existing vehicle or old parts are added to a kit comprising a manufactured body/chassis/monococque
bodyshell. The general appearance of the vehicle will change and result ina revised description on the Registration Certificate.
A vehicle will retain its donor registration mark if either the original unmodified chassis or unaltered monocoque bodyshell and two other
major components from the donor vehicle are used.
If a new monocoque bodyshell or chassis from a specialist kit manufacturer is used (or an altered chassis/bodyhell from an existing vehicle) together
with two major components from a donor vehicle, an age-related mark will be assigned. The mark will be based on the age of the donor vehicle. Am
ESVA/SVA/MSVA certifificate will be required to register the vehicle.
Where there are insufficient parts from a donor vehicle or in cases where the original vehicle mark is unknown, an ESVA/SVA/MSVA certificate will e
required to register the vehicle and a "Q" prefix registration number will be allocated.

Building a Locost quite clearly comes under the definition of a "Kit Conversion". Therefore not under "Radically Altered
Vehicles", "Kit Built Vehicles" or "Reconstructed Classics".
Therefore you just need a receipt for a bought chassis (or new steel receipts if *you* are the manufacturer) and two parts from the donor to get
age-related.

SACAL. On the form that I filled out, to get my age related plate, (what I put in my previous post above), was all that was required to gain
said plate. So yes I can count, and whats more I can read, and make sence of the DVLA forms, which it would seem some cannot. Ray

I was expecting a 'Q' plate, but the above gave an age related 'W'.
Chassis and all body panels from Luego=5pts
Engine/Transmission from Escort Mk2=3pts
8pts, age related!

I called mine a Beedle Special as I am, in effect, the manufacturer of the car and it was the first thing I came up with when the tester asked me at
the SVA. The name ended up on my log book and my tax disc! You can call it what you like as long as the name isn't already in use like Ferrari
or Skoda Octavia for example!
