is this a bad time to mention that he says his rear upright broke, guessing it's a fisher part though?!

I was standing at copse for the RGB race and it certainly was a heavy thump!

I am very impressed with the fact that in spite of an impact that was hard enough to break two wheels almost clean off the car, including -
The rear left drive shaft had been ripped in two, tearing the inner CV joint apart in the process.
The rear left upright was broken.
All three rosejoints holding the left rear upright on had sheared, as had the brake hose.
The lower wishbone had been rotated rearwards and in the process had pushed into the diff carrier twisting this part of the chassis seriously.
that the new wishbones he had made himself during the 05/06 winter rebuild stayed together!
I have mailed him to ask what size and grade of material they were made from. I scanned back though the diary but I didn't see anywhere that he
states this.

After this accident at Cadwell I built in "weakness" too the wishbones as the fact they where too good/strong caused more chassis damage
than the impact, surely its better they rip off rather than take 1/2 the chassis with them as they have no give ?

Ned.
the upright was the other side unless hes broken 2 of them now (they are a fisher part so not difficult to replace)
this is where that wishbone used to be
his build diary is what finally put me off trying a season of the rgb i cant afford to be repairing/replacing anywhere near as much as he has to.

The wishbones, btw, as someone was asking, are made from 7/8" OD 16swg CDS 2 tubing with weldable rosejoint bushes bought from Rally Design and
turned down on a friend's lathe to fit the aforementioned tubing.
The fact that they're CDS does make them a heck of a lot stronger than normal ERW tubing. You can just tell when you move a 6 metre length of it
around how rigid it is.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but another point to note is that the wishbones were tig welded.

Actually, they weren't. I did have a TIG at the time and could have done them with that. However, I think I'd have still been doing it.
They were done with MIG, using an argon/CO2 mix gas. The welding isn't of the prettiest but it obviously works!

While I'm on here. Do you locost chaps have a source for ready made suspension brackets? (The U-shaped bits that are in the photo at the top of
the page with the rosejoints bolted into them.)
That is, do I really have to bash a piece of steel to the right shape or can I buy them somewhere?

MNR do them.
Wishbone / coilover chassis mounting bracket 3mm mild steel with M12 hole each @ £1.90
But I guess any of the major manufacturers MK, MAC1 etc would do them too!
Just found these on GTS site.
GTS-004 Suspension Bracket U bracket to suit GTS polybushes £1.55 each

Tim, this is the reason you ain't seen much of me this season, but the chassis sustained very little damage due too the wishbones breaking away
during impact...........
re build funds, (lack of) have kept me away.

I nabbed the bodywork, the chassis looked a bit suspect when I saw it in its bare bones state.
