Pinto problem?
Hi all
Whilst tinkering with the engine today i thought i would see how hot the exhaust is with my new infrared thermomiter, when pointed at cyl 1 ( near
manifold ) it only showed 100 deg c, cyl 2,3 and 4 were 200
I cheaked the carbs (twin 45's ) and all jets seemed clear and the plugs all looked the same too
It was idling ok, but i didn't have time to take it for a drive, any ideas what else to look for?

I think, if its not affecting the idle or the way it drives you should write it off as metering error, perhaps the block is absorbing more heat at
that cylinder, or maybe you didn't aim it quit right or something.....If it is affecting the drive then its time to investigate.....my guess
would be too much fuel...also what type of ignition are you running as sometimes if its a 36-1 tooth wheel the crank/cam can stretch very slightly
which would give a slightly different advance....don't imagine you'd ever notice it in the real world though! Oli.
If your not living life on the edge you're taking up too much room!

Was there any reason for checking the exhaust or were you just curious. If it runs o.k. why look for problems?
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Hi
Just curious really, i've fitted an air box which has made it a bit awkward to balance the carbs, i thought measuring the exhaust temp might be
a quick check

if you are measuring the tem pon the exhaust manifold istelf, then that is strnge. I can;t see how the exhasuts from cyl 1 would not get as hot as
the others.
have you looked at the spark plugs?
is there a vacuum take off on carb for cyl 1?
after a short run, did you measure again?
does the exhaust sound even?
tbh if it runs fine, then don't worry; but it would be interesting to find out why.

Assuming the reading is correct then carb balance, mixture or missfire on 1 could all do that for you. Bet it would even up if you put a bit of load
on rather than just run at idle.
