Where is the best place to get gas from??
Hi all, I'm not talking about fart gas im talking about gas for MIG welding, Having read through a load of threads on here I think im right in
saying CO2 / Argon is the best stuff to use for my chassis, so can anyone tell me the best place to go? I just bought a Clarke 160T Industrial spec
welder, which requires big bottles, not disposable small ones, but I don't want to be ripped off for a big bottle, as BOC possibly will. Also,
what size wire should I use for welding my RHS 16SWG Steel?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

They still did the pub style bottles on exchange when I phoned last year. And VERY cheap.
I would still consider a BOC rental as you can then have Argon shield which I think is much beter on the thin stuff than plain co2. My welding
improved no end after getting it.

oh yeh wire size.
0.6mm welds well but your machine may not like it, I would stick with 0.8mm

local welding supplies place - if they don't do gas, they'll know who does.
I get mine from them - 17 quid a refill + one off rental / admin charge of 30 quid.

I use ferromax in an integra bottle from air supplies....spoke to BOC and they were perhaps the most unhelpful ppl ever! Phoned air supplies and that
chatted to determine what would suit me best, got the bottle delivered the next day....little bit more expensive but much nicer to deal with! Oli.

Well I had really bad experiences with Air Products. We had a bottle rental contract for 15 years, with steady price rises (no problem with that) but
in a space of a few months it went up a massive amount. They kept invoicing me for products not used and when I had paid for gas I had bought they
kept invoicing me. Their invoice department didnt seem to have any admin in place.
They were also not interested when I told them BOC were substantially cheaper, so guess where I go now.
A small independant dealer may be the best source of gas. However if you want just C02 the local pub is a good place.

I use BOC & the bloke in my local branch is spot on. I had an argosheild bottle with a stiff valve, I should have taken it back but needed to get
on with a job & forced it once too much. I snapped the wheel off the valve & he swapped it no questions asked.
It costs me about £35-40 to fill the 1/2 size bottle & similar for rent plus a £10 admin charge no matter how many bottles you change in one go.

Energas don't charge any admin charge if you have a depot near you, and the refills are cheaper than BOC. Last time I looked Air products and
BOC charges were identical
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
