Easy!!

I did the search and couldnt really find anything useful, people were quoting from 19 up to 50

Ive worked out that with 7" wide tyres i would need ET50 wheels. This is with sierra running gear on an indy. Does that sound right to anyone?

To ox and greggors84
most members of the forum are very helpful to newcomers and will attempt to give impartial helpful advice just remember that certain members have only been on the forum for 2 or so months and have posted in excess of 300 posts and still not started to build any thing. The best advice is to be selective with the responses you read and the majority of the people here will atempt to answer the questions in a helpfull and polite manner.

Couldn't agree more with Tim, if you can't find the answers here you probably are asking the wrong questions!

I believe the standard Ford focus wheels will fit on a sierra hub having read previous posts. The focus wheels are 6 inches wide and have an offset of 38mm.

If the wheels go wider then it's my understanding that the offset needs to reduce by half of the increase if the aim is to have the inside rim (car side rather than kerb side) in the same position as with the original wheels.

So, if I'm right about the 38mm offset on a 6 inch wheel than the offset on a 7 inch wheel, which is 25mm wider should be approximately 25 or 26mm.

If the offset stayed the same then you would have a half inch more wheel on each side of the centre line, what you want is for the inside edge to remain fixed which effectively means reducing the offset.

Consider an imaginary wheel that is 100 mm wide and which has an offset of say 38mm. Ths means that the mounting face to the hub will be 50 (half of 100) plus 38mm = 88mm from the inside rim.

If you then replace the wheel with a 120mm wide wheel, you will want to keep the mounting face of the hub the same 88mm from the rim. The centre line is now 60mm and so the necessary offset would be 28mm.

Hope this helps (and hope its accurate, it's certainly my understanding).

Take a look here http://www.tyresave.co.uk/fitment.html#FORD
or try a search under offset

Cheers

That helps, i really didnt have a clue how to work it out.

What would be really useful is a diagram, does anyone know of one on the net?

Thanks

Take a look in running gear about offsets, it's not as simple as where the inner edge of the wheel is compared to the hub face

My apologies,

My avatar and attitude is back to normal.

The only reason I got upset is that i've read lots of threads on the subject and have asked the same question myself (sorry if that makes me hypocritical, but i thought the thread i started had answered the question)

Anyway, for details on the offset and diagrams, check out the following link:
http://forum.locostbuilders.co.uk/xmb/viewthread.php?tid=5544&page=1
incidentally this isn't my thread, but think it answers the question.

Apologies to one and all,

Ned.

ps the only thing i don't like is people shouting on here.

You might also want to take a look at this thread

http://forum.locostbuilders.co.uk/xmb/viewthread.php?tid=5772

It deals with the issue of Scrub radius and the impact of offset. I was unaware of this when I sent my earlier post. I'm still not sure how significant all of this is.
