Brooklands gets another Concorde

Brooklands Museum (Weybridge) are getting another Concorde

British Scareways are donating their 40% scale model that sits at the main entrance to Heathrow (just before the tunnel) to Brooklands Museum.

It arrives there on Friday, and will undergo restoration there before going on display....

Don't suppose they will dig up the runway as soon as Concorde lands like they did at Duxford!

I suppose it will be sad for people who look forward to seeing the little Concorde when they get to Heathrow, but sadly, it is now, no more to be seen in the skies (the real version).

But its better for it to be in Brooklands than to be put on the junk heap. It wont be lonely...there is a proper Concorde there to keep it company ...

Concorde was 'born' (on paper) at Brooklands, to be more exact, at British Aerospace (formally BAC) which stood in the grounds of Brooklands.

Its not far from Heathrow, so you could always go for a visit....

Its also just a few miles from J10 M25

I am lucky, Brooklands is only about 2 miles from my home...

No, its only the 40% sized model this time, and its arriving by road overnight on Thursday/Friday morning, its only a few miles from Heathrow.

When Brooklands got the real Concorde, G-BBDG, it came in pieces....

Looks brilliant now though

gutted - it's been a while since I was dropping off/picking up at Heathrow, and now I'm back up north, even longer before I would of seen it again, but coming onto that roundabout and seeing that model always put a smile on my face!

Steve.

I remember the apprentices at BA built that model its pretty good, i'll have to pop along to brooklands and have a look.

We must have a meet there in the summer, the museum is ever changing and a good day out.

try and sneak your car into the "show ground" for the model and get one of those ARTSY shots of car and plane - and then you could also try and get some 50-60 Yr old in a biggles jacket hanging around to finish the shot off!!!!!!
I assume that if not - I'll be able to see at least your car at one of the shows this year!
I think that I might have regained enough money after a "relativley" speedy build (not super quick I know, but quick enough for my bank balance I can tell you!) to attend the Stoneleigh show!

cheers,
Steve.

Just landed at Heathrow yesterday and the model is still there, although surrounded by barricades and cranes... I thought it was being renovated... I am not sure I will see it when I leave then...

So instead of showing a memorial to the great British (and french) ingenuity, they'll probably replace it with something they'll be wanting us all to take in future.

I think if they are replacing it with something representing AngloFrancais Engineering then a replica of the Chanel Tunnel would be ironic!!

Chunnel model, good shout.

And they could make it authentic by having a 40 ft trailer with back doors open and a load of illegals falling out the back.

LOL

From BBC story:

"More than 25 million travellers a year passed by the 4/10 scale model of the supersonic airliner. Emirates is to put its own model up on the site."

Talk about dumbing down - 4/10!

What's wrong with 2/5ths!
