Carb ~ Webber 32/36 DGV 5a Plumbing

Help..........

I am fiting a new 32/35 DGV 5A carb to my pinto....... with the standard mechanical fuel pump.

My question is......

Do i need to install a fuel return line?

Cheers,

The Baron

Topic of much debate that is!

The general consensus seems to be that you don't need a return line.

I have the same carb and fuel pump set-up on my pinto and don't have a return line. After some intial problems getting the float heights set correctly and the mixture correct it now runs very well.

And just to confuse matters i'd say you definately require the return line.

The Manufacturer must have put it there for a reason (if your keeping the Mfr's setup).

We once damaged our Flow line to the Engine so decided to try and use the return line instead and put the return into a bottle to see how much it flowed.... Half a 2L pop bottle in the time it takes to start the engine and reverse into the garage!

You'll also find another version of this thread is do you have to return it to the tank or can it be Tee'd into the pre-pump supply line. Some people aparently get away with this but a close friend tried it on his and all it did was circulate round and around.. as soon as you crimped the recirculating hose it fired!

No, you don't. At least ours hasn't, and it's done thousands of miles over the last 2 and a half years.

I just blocked the return up with a bolt

Big NO you don't from here too at least we had 3 years with a blocked return line.

Some DGAV carbs have a return some don't I think they were put on cars that had fuel vapour locks due to hot under bonnet conditions as an easy fix...

Cheers
