how much more torque will a straight cut type 9 take?

People torque about them a lot but no one can afford them!

im not really thinking of getting one, it just seems like a better way of putting more power past the box with out it packing in and also gives more leg room cause dont have to use a mt75 or similar, and no one cares about the sound in a open top like a seven. how much does a straight cut gear set cost at the bottom end of the price scale

I think the first week point on t type 9 is the bearings them selves. after that it s the gears them selves.

but surely the bearing dont take anywhere near as much stress in a straight cut box since they dont have to work as trust bearings.

Straight-cut gears can be astonishingly noisy - a friend used to do local rallies, and some cars failed the noise test due to the overall engine/transmission noise, not the exhaust!

If I am not mistaken Martin Schanche he of rallycross fame used straight cut Quaife dog boxes derived from the type 9 in his 500 odd BHP Escorts way back in the 80s.
