Punto airbag light
A mate has a Fiat Punto 1.2, I think its a 2000 model.
The airbag light has come on.
Any common faults ?
He did say they have been sliding the passenger seat back and forth a lot recently so you know what I am thinking, but I will ask on here anyway
because its wrong to presume.

There is only one thing you can do: make a diagnosi with computer, there is no common fault, the only common fault is passenger airbag swithc (it have
a non idoneus wiring loom, in this case you have to change wiring loom ( about 5 euro)
BTW if you can not connect a computer you can do nothing.
Maybe you fault is intermittent but you can't reset errors without computer.

Your english is better than some english peoples.
Yes I did say to the guy that he would probably need to get a garage diagnosis, but its always worth a try.

not nessercarily, it's not uncoommon for some OEM to use dissimilar metals on the pyro connectors, so for example tin on male part gold on
female. this can allow ferritic corrosion to occur and drop the resistance value low enought to set off the warning light. this is exacibated by
excessive movement of the part due to poor connector location.
I only ever re4commend gold gold connections and suitable connector locations in any design i see.

As already sugested in most makes of car Air bag lights are usually caused by bad connecions under the seat -- the gasses seat foam and pyrotechnics
and disimilar metals seem to cause corosion problems.
Usual cure is pull the connections apart clean with switch cleaner and protect with silicone grease or wd40.
REMOVE THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION FIRST AND KEEP THEM WELL AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE and also pull the airbag fuse while carrying out the work.

however you can do everything , but without computer to reset errors light will be always on.
