Pinto Oil Pressure

Hi,

I have what i think is an oil prssure issue. when i thurn the ignition on the dial reads 0 psi as you would expect so is wired correctly. When i then start the engine the dial goes to either 90 or 100 psi and remails there even when the engine is up to temperature. There is also a high pitch wistleing sort of noise may be related?

bit of background i have a 2L pinto very recently changed head gasket

Any ideas cheers

Paul

It sounds unlikely, but could your head gasket be letting cylinder compression pressurise your oil?

100 PSI would be reasonable reading for cylinder compression.

Be interested the hear the real reason for your problem

Either that or the pressure relief valve is WELL stuck!

Does it have a high displacement pump in??

At 100psi oil would blow out the oil filler + sump 1 way valve is the gauge ok ?

It does have a high predssure pump

The gauage was working fine before i swapped engines so im assuming its ok

Do you think the high pitch noise is related?

I'd guess somethings happened with the sender or the wire, and its going straight down to earth.

A nick in the wire maybe if you've caught it getting the engine in and out, or got the oil pressure warning light and guage wires mixed up?

Is 100 PSI the maximum the guage shows?, if so that would proove it further.

Not sure if the sender or system could become airlocked.... if the oil is compressing a pocket of air where the sender is that might show a false high reading.
