Drive belt any ideas

Got a 2.0L zetec and I am using one of those small daihatsu (denso) alternators. Fabricated a bracket for it.

I just need a 6 rib drive belt of about 80 to 85 cm long.

Has anyone any idea of any vehicle fitted with such an item.

Will make the visit to the motor factors that much easier !!!

thanks

I have done the exact same thing got my drive belt from Unipart, had it of the shelf. 6 rib and the length you require mines was 890mm. cost about £7. All 6 rib belts are 20mm wide so it will fit.

I found an 89cm one today too long, the alternator rests on the oil filter. Also found out certain VW Golfs and some Nissans use a 73cm belt (too short). Something must use a size in between.

thanks

Go to Halfords. I needed a v-belt for my Pinto set-up and found exactly what I needed there. They have all the belts on a rack in order of size, so just go through them until you find the right one. (Admittedly they have a smaller range of 6rib belts that v belts, but it's got to be worth a try)

Good luck,
Matt.

checked there as well, you are right they only stock a selection of the smaller sized 6 rib belts

Time to annoy the motor factor I think

I got my V belts from

www.farnell.co.uk

http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/40312.pdf

this is a pointer to some of the ones they stock.

Do a search on

V belt

and you get loads come up - a lot are NOT V belts so so much for their search!

As I recall, they are stocked in strange sizes a few cm apart.

The data sheet shows Z belts as being the ones I used on a granada v6, and start at 370mm, and then go 395, 410, 420, etc up to 1750.

The 'A' profile belts, from 540 to 3950mm might also do you!

they are a few quid each and min order is a tenner, so go mad and buy a spare too!!

Try your local bearing / power transmission distributor - they should stock all range of sizes and may be cheaper than a motor factors. Just look in Yellow Pages under bearing distributor.

Remeber to ask for a discount - the list prices usually have no relation to the actual price, not sure about belts but discounts of at least 50% off RRP for bearings are usual.
