...The start of the slide into middle aged spread

Although I have read that the Mk5 GTI has regained some of the magic.

Nooooo, the mk3 is where it all went lardy and wrong, mk2 is just a bit of a manly bulking up, stronger and better, filling out in it's teenage years

This is my last beastie She's dead now, but bits of her will live on through the magic of eBay

I loved my Mk1. I did a lot of work to it (was a wreck when i got it). BMW dash (never again! nightmare to get it all working), 16V engine, rear discs (waste of time imho), Merc Cosworth interior (looked fantastic), single wiper etc etc. i spent loads and got next to nothing back for it when i sold it on. loved it all the same.

Ok guys, confession time - I'm the saddo who said my W reg MK1 was "the best car I've driven" on The Cars' the Star - that was my 10 seconds of fame.
Actually it was/is true - for an 8 valve 1600cc engine it really flew - even took the back seat out and used it as a high speed delivery van when I worked in the rag trade.
Bought it from a mate who worked at a VW company for £5k new then sold it 2 years and 76k later for £3.5k.
Cheers, Pewe
