Ford diesels to type 9 ?

Hi all,
as above, i'm interested in knowing if Ford deisel engines mate up to the type9, obviously the 1.8 in the Sierra does but these are quite rare so i was wandering if this was the same engine they put into the Mondeos. someone has probably done this already but i've not read anything about it.

As all of the Ford diesels in the Transit are bolted to MT75's then I would say yes, as the bolt fixings are the same as type9. As to the very latest diesels, "ie" in the latest Mondeo, can't say. Cheers Ray

a Transit MT75 is very different to a Pinto/DOHC MT75, so i doubt it will bolt up.

the transit MT75 has a very different bell housing and the gear lever comes out the top of the case.

My thoughts are along the lines of getting a cheap kit like a ricman ranger or something similar and bunging in a diesel and using it as a cheap and efficient daily driver, maybe even doing one of those chip fat conversions!

mondeo 1.8 diesel has a ECU - sierra 1.8 diesel does not
there is a flywheel sensor (mounted on sump)
sump not cross member freindly (alloy as well)
oil filter on mondeo covers rear wheel drive engine mount holes in engine block
dont know about the flywheel (dual mass?)

oooh, now i'm wondering what bell housing the transit diesels match ...... perhaps the modern I4 and V6 engines ...... that would be interesting, don't suppose anyone would have a chance to measure one .....

wont the extra torque of the diesel eat out the tranny, i may be wrong on this though

The 1.8 diesel fitted to the Sierra was also fitted to the Escort/Orion and Fiesta, also came turb'd. Later models were renamed the Endura but it is essentially the same engine (ECU'd).

These are dirt cheap and do mega miles no problem, for a bit of refinement why not go for a VW TDi ? They're getting cheaper now?

I've got a steel ring which fit's between the bellhousing and the block and could be used as a template to check the against a type 9 ?

The P100 diesel has a type9 and the 2.3 Sierra diesel to Oct 1988

5 speed Transits from 1986 to oct 1988 have type 9.

theres a transit i4 twincam engine on e bay at the moment 150 notes bin but i cant find the link

...might as well look for a diesel engine with a RWD transmission already attached. Don't forget about the Japanese pickups! There are plenty of Toyotas, Isuzus and Mitsubishis on Fleabay al the time, many of which 2WD.. not the cheapest to run, I suppose, but will have no problem running 300k+ miles, and plenty of torque (hey, some of 'm have to haul 2,500kg worth of steel around, should be plenty for a light kitcar)

Uhhmm... dude? Why not buy a Suzuki Samurai instead? They're dirt cheap, and there are already conversion kits available to swap the engine for a VW diesel or turbodiesel... plus you'd get proper offroad performance as well..
