How long before the fan should kick in
I've just got to the point of sticking some coolent in my pinto and have run the engine for about 5 minutes at 2000 revs before my bottle went
and turned it off.
The fan didn't come in although it's rated at 95 degrees (polo switch)
Any of you pinto lads have a rough idea how long yours takes before the fan kicks in, haven't got my dash on yet so know the temp.
Or is there any other way of accuratly sensing water temp.
Cheers Rich

Its a different engine, but my CVH would run for 20-30 mins after starting up before the fan came on.

As much as 30 minutes --- even longer if you don't have a thermostat.

This is how I've plumbed it in:-
20mins, that puts my mind at rest
Any problems? Pipe goes from top of water pump to bottom of expansion bottle, smaller pipe goes from top of expansion bottle to top of thermostat
housing take off. Used metal pipe across exhaust headers just in case! Although it is quite a way off.
Cheers

A pyrometer (IR thermometer) is a useful piece of kit for this kind of situation. It'll give you a nice reading for the radiator hose to show
approx what temp the coolant is currently at.
Also useful for checking headers when there's a misfire, checking tyre temperatures etc etc....
Not that expensive nowadays either....

Looks like your thermo switch is at the bottom/colder side of the rad so it may take a while to cut in. And that looks a very big rad.
