Swirl pot

Just a quick one O bike engine experts

Would a car with an R1 (2006) need a fuel tank with a swirl pot?

Cheers

Chris

I would say yes Chris on the 06 r1,due to design of the fuel pump,it does not have a built in swirl pot like the injection blades,so even if you had a baffled tank, when running low on fuel you may have fuel starvation issues.

More of an expert than me!

Someone in the club has asked, do you need a fuel return pipe on the tank too?

cheers

Chris

What if you make a cup for the tank so that the pump sits slightly below the bottom of the tank plus baffles?

The pump fits into the side/bottom of the tank doesn't it?

I'm not sure

Yes Chris you need a return on that injected R1 pump,Martin Keenan does a fitting for the late R1,similar to one he did for me on the zx10 I will try and find a picture,it fits in the base of the tank

This picture shows the sump on the bottom of our fuel tank into which the pump fits. Not an R1 but you get the idea. The smaller hole is for the fuel sender.

No, you don't need a return pipe on the fuel tank itself if you're using the 2006 R1 fuel pump. The original pump has a feed and return pipe as well as an inbuilt filter and level sensor.

Mk2 Golf GTI fuel pump has a swirl pot.

I used it on my FI setup.

When converting my RF900 BEC to GSXR600 TB's and Megasquirt I used a GSXR fuel pump/regulator assembly.
I then (with help) fabricated a small tank in stainless to mount the pump, which also doubles as a swirl pot.
