Gearbox oil
Before installing my gearbox (Type 9 straight from the donor) I changed the oil and added some aftermarket friction reducer to help it handle more
power - or so I thought. A colleague at work has since told me that these oil additives, while producing a lubrication effect of their own,
counteract the Phosphorous in normal gearbox oil with the net result being shorter gear life. Not really what I'm looking for.
The stuff I used was a standard molybdenum based product. I haven't run it yet and am considering whether to drain and refill the box before I
do.
Appreciate any thoughts or experience of these products.

My type nine box had a notchy 1-2 change. I drained and refilled with Ford Automatic Transmission fluid and the change is much better. Gearbox still
seems fine with no extra noises etc.
If all the oil additives are so good you would think Castrol/Mobil/Silkolene/Shell would put them in, produce the best oil in the market and take over
the world.

Use semisynthetic gear oil. Not ATF.
