Progress

Made up some engine mounts and a gearbox mount today and got the engine/box resting on them

Gearbox mount - not yet welded

Near side engine mount

N/S Gearbox Mount

Off side engine mount

O/S Engine Mount

And finally the lack of alternator clearance

Lack of Alternator Clearance

Other than move the engine back, what can i do to get more clearance. No moving parts are touching the chassis but the housing is quite close. Could i remove a section of the interfering tube and reinforce it on the other side or would it be ok the way it is?

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

get a smaller alternator from a rascal or charade.

iirc, a charade alt uses the multiV belt so would make it a little simpler

i'm not keen on your gearbox mount either. weld plates over the ends of the little spacer pieces or mitre the tube so it comes down to the rail. if you weld it up as is, i can imagine the small tube lozenging on cornering and the whole lot falling into the side of the tunnel.

Good idea but, here come the stupid questions, how would i mount the smaller alternator? I doubt it would mount to my jag engine and i cant mount it on the chassis rails there because there is a tube in the way.

you'd need to make a new mount. i made one for my pinto using some flat steel plate and the original rascal mount.

alignment isn't critical, but it needs to be reasonably close to save wear on bearings an belts. you can use the original bolt holes for the jag alt, or use whatever's present.

if you can build a custom chassis, you can make an alternator bracket. be brave

Is your whole v12 engine sitting on that one chassis rail?

Why is the v6 going to be easier to SVA?, sounds like building two cars.
Surely the V12 will be a whole different mountings and everything?

Its a straight six that came out of the donor. I was going to put the 12 in pre SVA but decided not to because i dont have much room in the garage, i know it runs and im going to have to do some saving to get the £2500 kit to mate a v12 to a 6 speed manual. I will look into the mountings but i am pretty sure they are in the same place
