Damn NTL
Im having problems accessing any internet sites. Except this one for some strange reason.
Is any one on else on NTL broadband?
Everyone i know on it around here seems to be having this problem. Its been playing up the last few days but not this bad.

You're lucky you can get to this one!
It seems they are having DNS server problems.
I've never known a company like NTL, they are useless. I seem to be offline as much as online and I have BB.
At the moment I'm going through a different server, so access is actually faster as there is no one else online!
Do you have this one listed by IP address by any chance? That is the only way round the problem that I know of.

Its come back now, what do you mean about the IP?
The BMW website seemed to work aswell? I have been trying to do some coursework on vehicle systems and was looking up about ABS. Anyone know some good
sites?

I decided for the first time ever to phone the ntl service status phoneline and their engineers were working on sorting out a 'major
outage'
Apparently earlier on Blueyonder also had major downtime... Something to do with a bugger of a virus going about apparently...
If it's the virus caused ntl to go down then it just goes to show we can't blame ntl all the time...
Cock off or cock on. You choose.

a guy at work who is on freeserve broadband also had an outage.
The word is that the whole of the uk was affected due to a major problem with a main pipe to the USA.

I had a few people ask me if there were problems. Didn't see anything of it here tho!
This site is hosted in the UK (In 1 Brick Lane, E London) so any transatlantic outages shouldn't effect us. DNS going down at your ISP will
however unless you put the IP address in your windows hosts file (not recommended in case we ever change IP!)

One of the phat pipes joining London to the US of A broke last night. Seems to be working ok now though....

Yep - that's the excuse that Virgin were using for last night's lack of responsiveness.

Mmm - Virgin said that they'd lost most of their DNS's as well.
Back running normally last night, though.

eclipse was fine too.
as a sidenote as far as DNS servers falling over, it's always a good idea to have a couple of spare DNS servers noted down and IP's of any
site's that you always need to be able to access ( locostbuilders, b3ta.com )
